Guess Guess Guess v2

Remember the Cow's Brain dessert I made? No? Well... Go see. And if you can't figure out what the brain is made off... go see.

Anyway, this is another one of those "hidden treasures" I made. I'll leave you all with the guessing. Desserts on me to the first person that guess it right.

La La Chong

My dad was away the weekend before Mother's Day. Mom decided to head to some furniture sale some where to shop for new beds and mattresses for my new home. Mom, sis and myself ended up some where near the old Subang airport and then decided to have dinner there. There are actually plenty of seafood restaurant located in the inner parts of that area.

Anyway, since Lala Chong was near by, I suggested we head there instead.

Chicken satay. (RM7) Ordinary.

Paku (fern) shoots fried with tuna fish. (RM10) This was really something different to me. The paku was sweet naturally by itself, but to add tuna in it for extra sweetness? Tasted quite good actually. I think canned tuna was used, those with chili flavor. I don't recommend this to anyone who don't like fish though, the smell and taste of tuna lingers in the mouth.

Salted fried mantis prawns. (RM6 each) What a waste. I didn't enjoy this as much as I wanted to. One prawn is cut into three. The pieces were too small, and it was hard to get any meat out of it. Would have been better if they fried the prawn as a whole thing.

Fried lala bee hoon. (RM10) Ordinary, I guess. They used a lot of small little cute lala in the bee hoon. It gave out a lot of the seafood taste to the noodles but some how I felt like something was missing when I couldn't chew on the lala.

Honey baked mackerel. (RM18) Good stuff, and I think it would be something I can do at home. The fish was fresh and sweet. And I totally like it because there's no fish bones to bother with!

Salted egg fried crab. (1kg for RM47) We manage to finish all the other dishes, so when we were served this, ....we ask for it to be packed to go instead. I ended up having it a day after. Taste wise was quite alright but I wished I could have eaten the crabs fresh from the wok. Would have tasted better.

Overall I thought it was a nice place for seafood. Got to go early and book a nice table in the right location though. The evening sun shines into the restaurant and can be a little annoying to the eyes for those sitting facing the entrance.

Try to add the site and post links to anyone involved to maximize the effectiveness.Tag a minimum of 5 people! Try your best not to double tag people so it will spread better! I'm going add this 3 links below. Not that their are more important than the rest, but just because I enjoy reading them and I want to share this with all.

Blue lotus. Plenty beautiful pictures and Japanese cook up and recipes. You won't get to see Japanese restaurant food reviews, but this is authentic home cook Japanese meals which I believe the taste is as Oishi! as it looks.

backStreetGluttons. A bunch of men who eat, cooks, and enjoys their pubs as much as they enjoy their back street food. It's fun reading what they have to say because this is no typical foodies page on food. Sometimes you got to tune in to the right wave length to pick up their signals ;p

Ling239
. I have still no idea why 239. But this is one blogger I would want to meet. Ling's write up is always in Chinese and English. Short and sweet reviews which really works for me because I hardly have time to read lengthy reviews anymore.

Beer Garden

It was fun meeting up at PickNBrew, the One Utama branch. My first time meeting Daphne and Armand (is that how you spell your name? ...or should I just call you the vampire?) And it's been a while since I have met up with Imbi and Itchy, and Kusahi Keat. Not my first time picking up WMW, but it was my first time picking up Ashley.

Anyway, before I forget, all of us will be meeting up again on Monday (26th May) 8pm at Alisan Mamak near Taman Bahagia LRT station for Mee Diau. Anyone and everyone who is free should come too! The more the merrier to enjoy the noodles and the awesome Guan Chang Kuih! You got my number, and email, if you need directions to get there.

Now, back to the meet up. When there's Imbi and Itchy, there's alcohol? HAHA!

She brought a bottle of Peach liqueur for after dinner. Sweet and strong stuff.

We didn't manage to have PickNBrew's cake (all sold off again!), but the dude from Life Vs Anime baked a Strawberry cheese cake for us. Yum yum! A bit on the sweet side but I'm not complaining. I need my dose of glucose!

A few of us head to Beer Garden in USJ14 for drinks for second round while the others retired for the night.

Short table, a lazy chair, gravel flooring...

I didn't want to move after my butt was seated. I felt to relaxed.

Booze in a jug (RM34.80), and a Sunset (RM3.80) (Sprite with plum juice)....tasted quite good.

I was seated across the chef hut. Quite interesting set up.

Poked into a plate of Taiwanese sausages. (RM7.80)

.... I like the place, and enjoyed my company. Chatted till late... which helped me destress. Now I understand why men needs their Happy Hours.

Returned One Piece which I kept for months... and pass my Yakitate Japan over before we left.

Japan #2, rice cooker bread, from Yakitate Japan.

So tired... but I can't sleep. *sign*

Oyster porridge

This weekend was dedicated to work. Every item on my teams' health check review needs a piece of me to complete. I was anticipating the work but not this much! I felt like running away, i run away, to Genting? to have sweet stuff, cakes and ice creams.

I'm like a slave (for you) to my team now. Cleaning up all this isn't fun. Some old issues which was already solved were brought up again. It was like Baby hit me one more time except Britney does it better.

The heat is not helping either. It's so hot. Made me want to Get Naked.

The hard part is just beginning. I hope by end of the month, I will still have the energy to say gimmie more.

What I really need now is lots of sweet cakes, deserts and cool air.

Not oyster porridge. Though I wouldn't mind if someone else cook this for me.

I have used ikan bilis soup to boil the porridge. Boiled dried oysters and fried shallots in them. Add a few fillet of chicken. Top it off with some sesame oil and spring onions. Easy right? ... so anyone wants to make for me?

Highlight it

How I wished I had a bowl of this. To place beside me on a lovely dish.

To squirt the sauce all over the fish. Fish? What fish? But it rhymes doesn't it?

Who cares about the rhyme, I am just desperate to dig in to something delicious like this Coconut Souffle with a Gingered Palm Sugar (Gula Melaka) Sauce when Nigel made for Allan on his birthday.

Rant rant rant. I don't care already la. Damn stressed out right now. Some more damn freaking hard to get good deserts. HOW TO SURVIVE?! All I get is some lousy kuih and cake at the office which does not help with the stress. The Nigel and Allan la.. this FFB's chocolate molten center also... and then this Sunny raspberry cheese tart... all the nice deserts. Cake house? Pastry shops? No fight lah. You all la! I blame you all. Arhghghgh spoil my taste buds with the good stuff that I can hardly get a good fix any where else. AARHGHGHHGHGH ... I need sweet stuff! *runs berserk*

Or maybe just eat a whole plate of Wine Jelly.

I really need direction in my life.

Kwai lin kou

I feel so hot and dehydrated right now. I face is so fair pale. But, its was all worth it =) Ferry and Tieso were awesome yesterday! Vinn did a pretty good job for the warm up too.

How I wish I have a couple of these in my fridge right now.

My colleague bought this for me a couple of weeks back from Chong Kok Wah Tou Guan Restaurant. The usual Kwai Lin Kou (pronounce as Gui Ling in Mandarin) I have eaten do not have added herbs in them. This is one quite different as Chinese herbs are added in the cooling jelly dessert to make it even more cooling for the body.

Tasted refreshing, but left a heavy bitter taste in the mouth. Very strong Kwai fragrance to it, and the Chinese herbs lingers. I decided to add in the sugar syrup that came with. Bitter sweet. Tasted good.

I later had a chat with my colleague. I told him eating the Kwai Lin Kou reminded me of life. Sometimes life can get really get shitty, disappointing, exasperating, heart breaking and what ever that makes you feel depress. (That’s the bitter portion) But we have always a choice to make it different by putting sweetness in it. (The fragrant sugar syrup)

That is why it is nice to take a break, and do something different. Different can be sweet, not always intimidating.

Did I mention that the rave rocked? Oh yeah, I did. I'm going to type this again. The rave rocked! w00t!

Fish and garlic porridge

My parents had their own agenda, so I had to cook for me and my sis. I like cooking, but only when I'm in the mood. That day, mood was not my middle name. When days like this come, I usually cook up something very simple, which requires little cleaning up.

Instead of using ginger to mask the fishy smell of the fish, I used whole cloves garlic. I didn't have to use much actually, the red snapper was fresh and was just sweet.

Boil porridge, add a little seasoning, add the garlic and boil until the garlic softens. Fish slice cooks fast so I added in five minutes before I turn the stove off. Add half a table spoon of Chinese cooking on top and closed the lid. I will always remember not to cook the wine, but let the heat to bring out and circulate the aroma to the whole pot of cooking.

Remember to pause, Eat First ;p , then continue with your routine.... even if you are not in the mood because, a simple dish can make your day.

Gem

Jem
Jem is excitement
Ohhh Jem
Jem is adventure
Ohhh
Glamour and glitter, fashion and fame,
Jem
Jem is truly outrageous
Truly truly truly outrageous
Whooo Jem
Jem, the music's contagious, outrageous
Jem is my name, no one else is the same
Jem is my name

HAHAHA I know, a different Jem, Gem, but when I first saw this restaurant what my cousin recommended, Jem and the holograms came to mind.

Gem serves Indian, but I'm not sure if it's northern or southern. How to differentiate? Gem is located a few shops away from the KL Sentral monorail station.

Anyway, I tasted the most unique drink here. The Neer Muro, (RM4) a delicate butter milk flavored with ginger, coriander and curry leaves. The drink was sourish, fragrant and spicy. Really weird blend of smell and taste which I could not accept. But the more I drink it, the more I like it. But still, I don't think this drink is for those who are not born with adventurous taste buds.

Go for the flavored lassi (RM6.50) instead. My cousin ordered the rose water flavor out of the mango, pineapple and banana. That tasted really refreshing.

Papadam...

... and the green dipping sauce that came with it. I was too busy gossiping ;p and getting updates from my cousin that I forgot to ask what it was. I have no idea what the green stuff was. Wasn't spicy.

The garlic naan (RM3.90) was alright.

The beriani rice. I always thought they should call this nasi berwarna-warni (colorful rice) because of the color.

Mutton rogan josh (RM13.90), curried lamb meat prepared with aromatic spices flavored with rogan-kashmiri style. The spices on this was really heavy. There was a really strong clove aroma to this. ..maybe way too much clove for my liking. I couldn't stand the smell after a while.

Chicken dahiwala (RM13.90), morsels of boneless chicken marinated in yogurt (curd) and cooked with ground spice, rich and thick gravy. I preferred this to the mutton. Spicy, which can be toned down my mixing more yogurt in the sauce.

Yogurt is actually nice by itself.

Spinach with chunks of cheese (RM7). This was my favorite. Looks all smashed, which that was how it was, like baby food. But this is really good stuff.

Overall dinner was really filling. We over ordered and couldn't finish everything on the table.
